Role Overview

The Community Liaison Officer will play a key role in strengthening relationships between Sign Language Interactions / SignVideo and the Deaf communities across Northern Ireland. You will act as a trusted representative and advocate, ensuring that community voices are heard and that our services are accessible, relevant, and responsive to local needs.


You will support the promotion and delivery of a range of services, including:

  • SignVideo’s Community Directory
  • The Blended Service in Northern Ireland, offering both a Video Relay Service and Face-to-Face Interpreting for HSCNI
  • Other services provided by the company
  • This is a dynamic and outward-facing role that requires excellent communication skills, cultural awareness, and a deep understanding of the Deaf community’s needs.


Job Title: Community Liaison Officer (Northern Ireland)

Hours/Contract: 21 hours per week/Part -Time/Permanent

Location: Remote with travel required across NI

Reports to: Community Outreach Manager

Salary: £25,000-£26,000 (pro-rata) depending on experience

Job Start: ASAP

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison between SignVideo and the Deaf communities in Northern Ireland, building trust and fostering engagement.
  • Promote Sign Language Interactions / SignVideo services through community outreach, events, and digital platforms.
  • Deliver tailored presentations and training sessions both Face-to Face and Remote to:
  • Deaf community members
  • Health and Social Care Northern Ireland (HSCNI) staff
  • Other stakeholders and service providers
  • Provide one-to-one and group support to users in installing and using SignVideo apps and accessing interpreting services.
  • Collect and report feedback from service users to inform continuous improvement.
  • Organise and facilitate workshops, drop-in sessions, and awareness campaigns across Northern Ireland.
  • Represent Sign Language Interactions when attending community events, forums, and relevant meetings.
  • Develop accessible resources (e.g., videos, guides, flyers) to support service awareness and usage by collaborating with other internal departments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align community engagement with organisational goals.
  • Support the implementation of new services and pilot projects in the region.
  • Work closely with the interpreting department to ensure that all literature and information shared externally is up to date and reflects the current working practices of the company.
  • Carry out additional duties as required by your line manager.



Person Specification


Essential:

  • Enthusiastic, collaborative, and adaptable with a proactive approach to community engagement.
  • Proficient in British Sign Language (BSL) and Irish Sign Language (ISL).
  • Demonstrated experience working within or alongside the Deaf community.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • IT-savvy – MS Office


Desirable:

  • Experience delivering workshops, training, or public presentations.
  • Established network within the Northern Ireland Deaf community.
  • Familiarity with interpreting services and assistive communication technologies
