The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL) is a nonpartisan coalition of young professionals and foreign policy experts committed to strengthening U.S. global leadership through strategic development investments. A4AL emphasizes the role of foreign aid in enhancing national security, preventing global health crises, and bolstering the U.S. economy. The organization actively drives impactful policy changes and supports congressional campaigns aligned with its mission. A4AL seeks passionate individuals to advance its vision of responsive and effective global leadership.


Role Description

This is a part-time, remote volunteer role, with opportunities to work in person in Washington, DC. The Director of Communications will lead the organization’s communication strategy, manage public relations efforts, and serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing 300+ volunteers from both the Press and Social Media Teams
  • Working with the Press Secretary and Team to draft press releases
  • Drafting and publishing articles for A4AL's Substack newsletter
  • Writing and editing a monthly Action Network newsletter
  • Managing media relations with various journalists, reporters, and writers
  • Developing and executing strategic communication initiatives
  • Fostering relationships with stakeholders (foreign relations organizations, colleges/universities, members of Congress, etc.) to enhance the organization’s public presence and reach
  • Working with the Social Media Director and Team to develop and schedule/post social media content


Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in building a media/communications strategy (press releases, public/media relations, writing, and social media management), especially within foreign policy, non-profit, or advocacy settings
  • Strong Communication and Strategic Communications skills
  • Experience crafting and implementing comprehensive communication strategies
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities
  • Familiarity with or experience in policy advocacy, foreign affairs, or non-profit organizations is a plus
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, or related field is a plus!
