Site Reliability / Cloud Engineer (AWS)
Remote, UK (Any travel is paid additionally)
Salary circa £70,000 - £80,000 + Benefits Package
Working on one of Europe’s most exciting Digital Transformation Programmes.
We are looking for an experienced Site Reliability / Cloud Engineer to help design, build and operate resilient, scalable cloud platforms on AWS.
This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure engineering, platform reliability and developer enablement, with a strong focus on cloud-native and container-based architectures. You will play a key role in building and operating core platform services that enable engineering teams to deliver reliable, secure and scalable applications.
Working closely with application and engineering teams, you will help shape best practices around Infrastructure as Code, service discovery, API management, observability and continuous delivery, ensuring platforms are performant, cost-efficient and production-ready.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys solving complex operational problems, improving developer experience through automation, and taking ownership of modern cloud platforms in a fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy and maintain cloud-native infrastructure and services on AWS.
- Build and operate containerised workloads using Amazon ECS (Fargate or EC2).
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform with modular and reusable patterns.
- Implement and operate core platform services supporting microservice architectures.
- Enable secure and reliable service-to-service communication and service discovery.
- Manage and optimise networking, routing and API communication layers.
- Implement DNS and traffic routing configurations using AWS services such as Route 53.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to build scalable, secure and observable environments.
- Implement CI/CD best practices and contribute to continuous improvement of platform automation.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise infrastructure for performance, reliability and cost efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to security, compliance and operational standards through automation and best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- Solid experience working with AWS cloud platforms.
- Experience running containerised workloads using ECS, Kubernetes, or similar platforms.
- Strong proficiency with Terraform, including module design and remote state management.
- Good understanding of cloud networking (VPCs, security groups, load balancers, routing).
- Experience implementing service discovery and microservice communication patterns.
- Familiarity with DNS management and traffic routing concepts.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog or similar).
- Experience contributing to CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and operational problem-solving mindset.
