Job Description
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for an experienced and highly organized Civil Engineer to join our architectural firm. The ideal candidate will be responsible for site supervision and quality checks, preparation of BOQs and cost estimates, and providing technical and market support across architectural and interior fit-out projects. This role requires strong coordination skills, up-to-date market knowledge, and the ability to support the design team with accurate cost and time analysis throughout the project lifecycle.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Site Supervision & Quality Checks
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, workmanship, and adherence to drawings and specifications.
- Check and verify civil, structural, and finishing works against approved architectural and interior drawings.
- Identify site issues, snags, and discrepancies, and coordinate with contractors/vendors for timely rectification.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, safety norms, and project timelines on site.
- Maintain daily/weekly site progress reports and documentation.
BOQ Preparation & Cost Estimation
- Prepare detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for civil, architectural, and interior works.
- Develop accurate cost estimates and budgets based on drawings, specifications, and site conditions.
- Prepare comparative cost statements for materials, vendors, and contractors.
- Assist in tendering, quotation analysis, and vendor/contractor rate negotiations.
- Track and update BOQs against actual site execution and running bills/measurement sheets.
Market Knowledge & Cost/Time Analysis
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current market rates for materials, labour, and finishes.
- Provide the design and project team with reliable inputs on cost implications of design decisions.
- Support project scheduling by estimating realistic timelines for civil and finishing works.
- Conduct cost-benefit and value-engineering analysis to optimize project budgets without compromising quality.
- Flag potential cost or schedule overruns early and suggest corrective measures.
Interiors & Architectural Coordination
- Understand architectural drawings, interior detailing, and finishing schedules to guide execution on site.
- Coordinate between architects, interior designers, contractors, and vendors for smooth project delivery.
- Review material submittals, samples, and mock-ups for interior and architectural works.
- Support the design team in translating design intent into buildable, cost-effective solutions.
REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Strong working knowledge of civil engineering practices, BOQ preparation, and estimation techniques.
- Good understanding of architectural and interior finishing works (flooring, false ceiling, joinery, paint, etc.).
- Sound knowledge of current market rates, vendors, and material specifications.
- Proficiency in MS Excel; familiarity with AutoCAD and estimation/BOQ software preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple sites/projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication and coordination skills to liaise with contractors, vendors, and internal teams.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail for cost and time analysis.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- 3–7 years of relevant experience, ideally with an architectural, interior design, or construction firm.
- Proven track record in site execution, BOQ preparation, and cost estimation.
