Role Description / Key Accountabilities

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Category/Sourcing Specialist in Direct and Indirect Procurement based in Chennai. The specialist will be responsible for managing sourcing strategies, overseeing category management, conducting market analysis, negotiating contracts, and collaborating with stakeholders to meet procurement objectives. The role involves analyzing data to identify cost-saving opportunities and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.


  • Develop and execute sourcing activities contributing to the Business/Sites/Local/Project Supply Sourcing Plan.
  • Commercial ownership of all spends for all areas of Clientele
  • Plan and execute portfolio of sourcing projects enabling category strategies and manage on-time delivery minimizing disruption to the business operations
  • Execute local category strategies and contract coverage to support Operational Strategies and process automation
  • Apply Category Management & Purchasing processes in alignment to design intent, local operating procedures, audit & Group Level obligations
  • Develop effective relationships with client internal business leaders to understand business requirements, to forecast demand, and verify established contracts are effective
  • Develop collaborative relationships with suppliers to ensure optimum delivery quality and sustained performance in line with business objectives
  • Collect requirements and analyses of key data inputs from multiple sources (internal and external) to build robust category and sourcing strategies mid to long-term
  • Validate application of procedures for issuing and evaluating tenders
  • Lead commercial negotiations with Suppliers, review contract award recommendations and contracts for approval
  • Leads, advises and mentors cross functional team members to ensure delivery against performance targets
  • Educate vendors on Clientele Supply processes and ensures delivery against budgeted plans
  • Support resolution of supplier performance issues and escalations
  • Actively promote open two-way communication within the Clientele Supply department and with other stakeholders.
  • Monitor the portfolio of suppliers supporting the business ensuring optimal usage & performance against business expectations.
  • Adherence to Clientele Governance Policies



About You

To be successful, you will need to be self-driven and comfortable being hands-on by demonstrating strong knowledge of Category Management by providing actionable insights.


  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Contract / Category / Buyer roles (Not purchasing but full fledged detailed contracts only)
  • Expertise in Category Management and Procurement processes
  • Strong Analytical Skills for market analysis and cost-saving initiatives (Advanced Excel Skills Mandatory)
  • Excellent Communication and Relationship Management skilss
  • Leading high value Strategic & Tactical Negotiations and supplier relationship management
  • Ability to handle multiple projects
  • Educational background in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Resource Industry experience in direct and indirect procurement is an advantage
