Role Summary

The Data Operations Project Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating enterprise initiatives focused on the identification, documentation, and operational readiness of “Platinum” data sources. This role ensures that critical data assets are fully documented—including data ownership, end‑to‑end lineage, and business metadata—so they can be confidently consumed by next‑generation analytics platforms and tools.

The Project Manager acts as the orchestrator across DataOps analysts, data engineering, governance, and analytics teams, driving execution against clearly defined milestones, dependencies, and quality standards. This role is not focused on application delivery; instead, it ensures that data documentation and metadata work is executed consistently, on time, and at enterprise scale, enabling trusted analytics, certified datasets, and reusable data products.

Key Responsibilities

Data Documentation & Platinum Readiness Delivery

• Lead cross‑functional initiatives to identify, prioritize, and document Platinum‑level data sources across enterprise domains.
• Own project plans and execution for documenting:
• Data ownership (business owner, technical owner, stewardship roles)
• End‑to‑end data lineage (source → transformations → analytical consumption)
• Business metadata (definitions, context, usage intent, metric alignment)
• Ensure documentation outputs meet defined Platinum entry criteria and are complete, consistent, and audit‑ready.
  

Program & Dependency Management

• Develop and manage detailed project plans, milestones, and dependencies across DataOps analysts, data engineers, governance teams, and analytics consumers.
• Coordinate sequencing of documentation work relative to data engineering, observability, certification, and analytics onboarding activities.
• Actively manage risks, issues, and scope to ensure delivery remains aligned to enterprise priorities and Platinum standards.
  
  

Governance & Metadata Enablement

• Partner closely with enterprise data governance teams to ensure Platinum documentation is:
• Registered in approved metadata and governance platforms
• Aligned to enterprise naming, definition, and stewardship standards
• Maintained through defined change and certification workflows
• Ensure documentation artifacts support downstream capabilities such as certified semantic layers, impact analysis, and analytics discoverability.
  

Stakeholder & Executive Engagement

• Serve as the primary point of coordination between business stakeholders, analytics teams, DataOps, and technology partners for Platinum documentation initiatives.
• Provide clear, executive‑level status reporting on progress, risks, and readiness.
• Facilitate prioritization discussions to balance business demand with DataOps capacity and sequencing.
  
  

Operating Model & Continuous Improvement

• Help operationalize repeatable delivery patterns, templates, and playbooks for data documentation and Platinum onboarding.
• Identify opportunities to improve speed, quality, and consistency of metadata capture and lineage documentation.
• Contribute to the maturation of the Data Operations delivery and governance operating model.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in project or program management supporting data, analytics, or enterprise information initiatives.
• Proven experience coordinating cross‑functional teams in data‑heavy, matrixed environments.
• Strong understanding of:
• Data ownership models and stewardship concepts
• Data lineage (technical and business perspectives)
• Business metadata and analytical data readiness
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex data concepts into clear plans, milestones, and executive‑level updates.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within Data Operations, Data Governance, Analytics Enablement, or Data Product organizations.
• Familiarity with enterprise data governance or metadata platforms (e.g., data catalogs, lineage tools).
• Experience supporting certified datasets, semantic layers, or analytics platforms (e.g., lakehouse, BI, advanced analytics tools).
• Agile or PMI project management certification a plus.
