Backend Lead Engineer

Job Description

Role Overview We are looking for a highly capable Backend Lead to architect, build, and scale our backend systems powering AI-driven products. You will design robust backend architectures, lead the engineering team, drive technical direction, and ensure our APIs, services, and infrastructure are optimized for high-performance AI workloads. Key Roles ? Architect and develop scalable backend systems using Django, FastAPI, microservices, and domain-driven design principles. ? Lead the planning, designing, and implementation of RESTful APIs and backend services used by internal and external applications. ? Oversee backend integrations for AI model inference, job orchestration, async processing, and high-load GPU-backed services. ? Manage data storage solutions across PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and implement caching and pub/sub patterns. ? Build reliable asynchronous task systems using Celery, Redis queues, RabbitMQ, or equivalent. ? Lead, mentor, and support the backend engineering team?code reviews, technical guidance, architecture decisions, and delivery planning. ? Collaborate with ML, DevOps, and product teams to ensure smooth end-to-end delivery of AI features. Responsibilities ? Drive backend architectural decisions, enforce coding standards, and ensure best practices in security, performance, and reliability. ? Develop scalable backend solutions for model serving, heavy computation pipelines, and async job execution. ? Optimize API performance, caching layers, database schemas, and background tasks. ? Own sprint planning, task allocation, and overall backend team productivity. ? Maintain CI/CD workflows, participate in debugging sessions, and guide the team in troubleshooting complex backend issues. ? Document architectural designs, API specifications, and backend workflows. ? Ensure backend systems are production-ready, with proper logging, monitoring, and fault tolerance. Required Qualifications ? Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or related field. ? 4?7+ years of backend development experience, including system design and team leadership. ? Strong proficiency in Django, FastAPI, Python, and modern API development. ? Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and caching strategies. ? Strong knowledge of Celery or similar asynchronous task queues. ? Experience working with AI/ML model-serving backends is a strong plus (GPU workloads, async inference, batching, streaming, WebSocket APIs). ? Understanding of backend scalability, distributed systems, and microservice architecture. ? Experience mentoring engineers, conducting reviews, and managing team delivery.
