Backend Engineer III

Duties

Key Responsibilities:

ServiceNow Development

Design, develop, and configure solutions within the ServiceNow platform, ensuring optimal performance and user experience.

Customize ServiceNow applications, modules, and workflows to meet business requirements.

Scripting & Customization

Develop custom applications, client scripts, business rules, and UI policies using JavaScript.

Implement and maintain Scoped Applications to support modular and independent functionalities.

Configure ACLs (Access Control Lists) to enforce role-based security and ensure data protection.

Integrations

Implement REST API-based inbound and outbound integrations with external systems.

Work on authentication mechanisms (OAuth, MID Server, etc.) to enable secure integrations.

Workflow & Process Automation

Develop and optimize workflows using Flow Designer and Workflow Editor.

Automate processes and improve service delivery through business rules, client scripts, and data policies.

Platform Maintenance & Administration

Manage and transition update sets between environments while ensuring stability and consistency.

Maintain system health, performance, and compliance with best practices.

Work closely with administrators to implement patches, upgrades, and platform enhancements.

Notifications & Communication

Configure email notifications and alerts for effective communication across stakeholders.

Ensure proper formatting and dynamic content integration within notifications.

Best Practices & Compliance

Adhere to ServiceNow scripting best practices to maintain scalability, performance, and maintainability.

Ensure proper documentation, testing, and deployment of developed solutions.

Agentic AI Experimentation & Development

Design and implement Agentic AI–driven workflows within ServiceNow using platform-native and external AI capabilities.

Develop experimental AI agents capable of reasoning, summarizing, classifying, and intelligently responding to user queries within the ServiceNow ecosystem.

Enable AI-powered Capabilities Like

Automated case summarization

Email interpretation and contextual response generation

Conduct experiments to assess AI model performance, validate output quality, and ensure safety and guardrail adherence.

Continuously monitor results and identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency and user experience through AI-driven enhancements.

Skills

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Experience

9+ years of hands-on ServiceNow development experience across various modules.

Certifications

Certified ServiceNow Administrator (CSA) - Mandatory.

Additional certifications (e.g., CAD, CIS) are a plus.

Technical Skills

Strong JavaScript programming skills for developing custom scripts and automation.

Experience with REST API integrations (inbound/outbound).

Proficiency in Scoped Applications, ACL configurations, and update set management.

Expertise in Flow Designer, Workflow Editor, and automation tools.

Soft Skills

Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.

Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE Programmer, AWS Certified Developer, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate are preferred.
