Job Description
Location: GOA
Experience: 3+ years (PLC automation, commissioning)
Vacancies: 2
About The Role
We are setting up a pilot project for a Cryogenic CO₂ Direct Air Capture (DAC) system—a first-of-its-kind setup. This is a rare opportunity to get first-hand experience building a world-class technology from the ground up. We’re looking for a self-driven Automation Engineer who can own the automation stack end-to-end: Beckhoff PLC + HMI + SCADA, field instrumentation integration, sequence control, commissioning, and continuous improvements.
This role requires strong hands-on capability on both software and hardware, plus the ability to identify, source, and procure components by working with vendors.
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s / Master’s degree (preferred) in Mechanical / Mechatronics / Automation (or equivalent)
Strong automation and plant process setup track record is essential regardless of degree level
Key Responsibilities
Configure, program, test, and commission Beckhoff PLC (TwinCAT 3) control systems for the pilot plant.
Develop reliable sequence logic as per process design/specifications (startup/shutdown, interlocks, alarms, fault handling & recovery, manual/auto modes).
Integrate And Test Industrial Instrumentation And Actuators
Sensors: flow meters, thermocouples, RTDs, pressure transducers, vacuum/pressure switches, level sensors, humidity sensors, valve position/limit switches, gas analyzers (CO₂/O₂) as applicable.
Actuators: pneumatic solenoid valves, control valves, pumps, heaters, compressors/blowers, motors/VFDs (as applicable).
Configure and troubleshoot EtherCAT networks and Beckhoff I/O (digital, analog, TC/RTD input modules, safety I/O if required).
Handle wiring-level integration: I/O mapping, loop checks, signal conditioning, grounding/shielding, and noise troubleshooting.
Build HMI screens (TwinCAT HMI or equivalent): operating screens, alarms, trends, setpoints/recipes, status pages, service/maintenance pages.
Implement SCADA connectivity: data logging/historian, dashboards, alarm notifications, reporting tags, and remote monitoring where required.
Integrate communications: OPC UA, Modbus TCP/RTU, serial devices/instrument gateways (as needed).
Maintain documentation: I/O list, tag mapping, sequence description, alarm matrix, commissioning and test checklists (FAT/SAT).
Select and source components: identify suitable sensors, valves, I/O modules, power supplies, HMIs, network components; compare quotes and identify vendors with best pricing for purchase.
Required Skills & Qualifications
3+ years of PLC programming and industrial automation experience with commissioning exposure.
Strong programming fundamentals: sequential/state logic, interlocks/permissives, alarms, analog scaling (4–20 mA / 0–10 V), PID basics, fault recovery.
Experience with Beckhoff / TwinCAT 3 preferred (or strong PLC background with ability to ramp quickly).
HMI + SCADA experience: alarms, trends, data logging, user roles, operator workflow.
Practical hardware skills: 24VDC systems, panel wiring basics, terminal blocks, relays/contactors, sensor/actuator interfacing, troubleshooting.
Good communication skills and ability to coordinate with process/mechanical/electrical teams.
Self-driven and able to take ownership end-to-end.
Nice-to-Have
Experience in pilot plants / R&D automation (frequent iteration, changing instrumentation).
Knowledge of process control documentation (P&IDs, ISA tagging, control narratives).
Experience with safety circuits and safety I/O (E-stop, safety relays).
Familiarity with vacuum, gas-handling, or cryogenic systems (preferred but not required).
Why Join
Work on a first-of-its-kind Cryogenic CO₂ DAC pilot system.
Gain first-hand experience building and commissioning world-class technology.
High ownership role with real impact on core system performance and reliability.
