Role Description The Assistant Manager – Design will support end-to-end design activities for Varhad’s products. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Nagpur, responsible for translating technical concepts (such as biochar production and pyrolysis technology) into clear, user-friendly designs and documentation. Day-to-day tasks may include collaborating with engineering and operations teams to develop product and process designs, creating visual assets and layouts for presentations, marketing collateral, and farmer-facing materials, and maintaining design standards and brand consistency across all channels. The role will also involve conducting design research, gathering feedback from stakeholders and users, iterating on prototypes, and preparing detailed drawings or specifications for manufacturing or implementation. The Assistant Manager – Design is expected to coordinate with cross-functional teams, manage design timelines, and contribute to innovation in product and communication design that supports Varhad’s mission.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in product, industrial, or system design, with the ability to translate complex technical processes into clear visual and functional solutions.
- Proficiency with relevant design and visualization tools (Solidworks, Ansys, OpenFoam) and familiarity with technical drawing standards.
- 4+ Experience in sustainable design, renewable energy, agriculture, or environmental solutions, preferably within manufacturing or agri-tech sectors.
- Ability to conduct design research, gather and synthesize user and stakeholder feedback, and iterate on prototypes and design concepts.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with engineering, operations, marketing, and external partners, including farmers and community organizations.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities, including handling multiple design tasks, meeting deadlines, and maintaining documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; a master’s degree or specialized training in sustainable or product design is an advantage.
