Job Description: Assistant Librarian

Position Title: Assistant Librarian

Location: GIBS Business School, Begur Kopa Road, Bangalore

Experience Required: 1 to 3 years

Key Responsibilities

    • Library Operations:
    • Manage daily library operations, including cataloging, shelving, and circulation of books and other resources.
    • Maintain an organized and user-friendly library environment.
    • Resource Management:
    • Assist in the acquisition, classification, and cataloging of books, journals, e-resources, and other library materials.
    • Regularly update and manage the library database for accurate recordkeeping.
    • User Support:
    • Provide assistance to students, faculty, and staff in locating and using library resources.
    • Guide library users on using digital and physical resources effectively.
    • Digital Library Services:
    • Support the integration and maintenance of digital library systems and e-resource platforms.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues related to e-resources and library management software.
    • Event Coordination:
    • Organize and promote library events, such as book fairs, reading challenges, and workshops.
    • Collaborate with faculty to support curriculum and research needs through library resources.
    • Library Policies:
    • Implement and enforce library policies and procedures to ensure smooth functioning.
    • Handle membership registrations and manage overdue book penalties as per policy.
    • Reports and Analytics:
    • Prepare periodic reports on library usage, resources, and trends.
    • Suggest improvements based on feedback and analytics to enhance user experience.
Qualifications And Skills

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science (B.Lib or M.Lib).
    • 1 to 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in an academic institution.
    • Proficiency in library management software and digital resource platforms.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Familiarity with library classification systems such as Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress.
    • Basic IT skills and an aptitude for technology-driven library systems.
