Salient works at the intersection of architecture, landscape, and context, with a strong focus on building responsibly in challenging terrains. The Hill Architecture Fellowship is intended to develop architects who understand how buildings respond to land, climate, and material realities.

This is a full-time, on-site Hill Architecture Fellowship based in Kolkata.

The fellow will be involved in projects located in hilly and sloping terrains, learning how architecture adapts to topography, climate, and ecological constraints.

The role involves:

• Assisting in the design and development of hill architecture projects
• Working on drawings, details, and site coordination
• Understanding slope management, terrain response, and material usage
• Gaining on-site exposure to construction in hilly landscapes
• Supporting research related to climate-responsive and terrain-sensitive design

This fellowship prioritizes learning through real conditions and real sites.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture (B.Arch / M.Arch or equivalent)
• Basic proficiency in architectural software and tools
• Interest in Terrain-based and landscape-responsive architecture
• Willingness to travel and work on-site when required
• Strong observational and problem-solving abilities
