Application Security Specialist

The New York City Police Department is seeking a highly skilled and motivated IT Security Specialist to join the Information Security Office of the NYPD Information Technology Bureau focusing on Application Security (AppSec). The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the analysis, design, development, implementation, enhancement and maintenance of various software functions and systems. This role requires strong leadership skills to supervise teams and coordinate complex integrated software development projects in a large complex organization.

Duties Will Include But Are Not Limited To

• Ensure application teams understand and follow policies, standards, configuration and operating procedures and guidelines regarding application development and application runtime security.
• Ensure compliance with Citywide and agency security policies and standards.
• Identifies probable system application exposures, compromises, problems or design flaws and escalates issues to Information Security management to limit serious security impacts.
• Provide secure application development and development.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, document and support an application security infrastructure to minimize application development performance and capacity.
• Plan, initiate and implement application security threat modeling during infrastructure, architecture and/or design changes.
• Offer support to application development, network, server, database and storage teams regarding new technologies, services and system requirements.
• Provide security design assistance on new products and internally developed projects.
• Define, manage and monitor security compliance of application, including procedures for detecting, reporting and responding to computer security incidents.
• Monitor industry development security standards and best practices.
• Define, manage and monitor data security, confidentiality, integrity and availability.
• Plan, initiate and implement application security threat modeling during infrastructure, architecture and/or design changes.
• Provide security design assistance on new products and internally developed projects.
• Review and analyze design and/or accreditation documentation to ensure appropriate security controls are in place

Minimum Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to projects and policies required by the particular position; or,

Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

Preferred Skills

• Proven experience in software development, threat modeling and pen-testing. - Experience supervising teams and coordinating complex large scale application lifecycles. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Perform formal security assessment of applications, configurations and infrastructure
