Application & Estimation Engineer

Role Summary

Act as the technical bridge between the customer and the sales function. Understand the customer's on-site machining requirement, assess it at site, arrive at a defensible cost estimate, and hand over a complete technical-commercial package to sales for quotation and closure.

Key Responsibilities

• Interact with client maintenance, projects, and reliability teams to understand scope, constraints, and shutdown windows
• Study drawings, GA/fabrication details, and equipment condition to define the machining methodology
• Conduct site visits and joint surveys; capture actual dimensions, access, power, and safety constraints
• Select suitable machines, tooling, and fixtures from the available fleet; identify special tooling or attachments required
• Build up cycle time based on machining parameters (cut depth, feed, RPM, number of passes), setup time, and idle time
• Prepare cost estimates covering manpower, machine deployment, consumables, mobilisation, lodging, and site overheads
• Assess risks — access limitations, hot work permits, confined space, ambient conditions — and factor contingency
• Prepare method statements, sequence of operations, and technical write-ups to accompany the offer
• Hand over the complete estimate and technical basis to the sales team; support them during technical clarifications
• Maintain an estimation database of past jobs, actual vs. estimated hours, and lessons learned to improve accuracy

Qualifications & Experience

• B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
• 3–8 years in on-site machining, plant maintenance services, or heavy engineering estimation
• Working knowledge of flange facing, line boring, milling, drilling, cold cutting, and bolt torquing operations
• Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret GD&T
• Comfortable with machining parameter calculations and cycle time build-up
• Willingness to travel at short notice to refinery, steel, and cement sites
• Good written English for proposals; MS Excel and Word proficiency essential
• HSE awareness; site safety certification an advantage
