Android Engineer

Job Overview

Plan A Technologies is looking for an experienced Android Engineer to help scale and modernize our mobile platform. This role will play a key part in expanding Android development capacity, improving long-term maintainability, and exploring cross-platform strategies to accelerate delivery across mobile platforms.

You will work closely with iOS, backend, and platform teams to build high-quality mobile experiences while contributing to architectural and tooling decisions.

Please note: you must have at least 5+ years of Android development experience to be considered for this role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY

• Design, build, and maintain Android applications using Java and Kotlin.
• Collaborate with iOS, DevOps and backend teams to deliver consistent, high-quality mobile experiences.
• Participate in architecture discussions related to cross-platform development (e.g., shared business logic).
• Improve build reliability, performance, and scalability in collaboration with platform teams.
• Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, and best practices.
• Experiment with and adopt AI tools to support development, testing, and debugging workflows.
• Work in a startup-like environment, building agile products and services.
• Evaluate and understand the technical trade offs necessary to bring product initiatives to fruition, weighing different approaches and arriving to a recommended solution, detailing its pros and cons.
• Independently define, decompose, and lead delivery of complex projects.
• Perform code reviews, design reviews, and write high quality tests.
• Create clear and concise documentation (diagrams, service descriptions, decisions, runbooks).
  
  

Experience

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Android SDKs, knowledge about Java.
• Experience building and maintaining large-scale Android applications.
• Familiarity with modern Android architectures.
• Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform or other cross-platform frameworks.
• Familiarity with advanced build systems such as Bazel.
• Experience improving or scaling CI/CD pipelines for mobile development.
• Exposure to AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., coding assistants, automated testing tools).
• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent.
• 6+ years of professional mobile development experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on Android development experience.
• A sheer eye for design and attention to detail, the products you build should not merely be functional but should take in context and anticipate our customer’s needs in a beautiful way.
• Experience integrating with RESTful server-side services.
• Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies.
• Experience working in organizations undergoing rapid team growth.
• Excellent organizational, problem solving and analytical abilities.
• Experience working in cross-functional, product-driven teams.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
