We are building a new AI function to drive AI-native capabilities across our products and business operations. This team is the foundational layer for how AI is built and scaled at Basis – not just using AI tools, but laying the architecture that everything else sits on top of.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity within our AI Function for a driven and collaborative AI Engineer to build and scale the intelligence layer of our AI-native platform.

You will be based in Budapest and work closely with the Klario product team, acting as an AI-native presence on the ground – collaborating daily with existing engineers to help them move from using AI as a tool to building with it as a foundation. You will also work closely with our Architecture team to shape how AI capabilities are designed, built, and evaluated across the platform.

In This Role, You Will

• Implement and optimise LLM orchestration pipelines across our platform's core capabilities
• Build and maintain modular prompt architecture
• Build knowledge graph infrastructure using graph databases and vector databases for domain knowledge representation and semantic retrieval
• Build RAG pipelines using federated retrieval across multiple knowledge sources
• Develop and operate the centralised evaluation framework across all AI capabilities
• Implement multi-agent systems to power agentic AI capabilities
• Conduct model evaluation and selection
• Contribute to AI governance and compliance, supporting ISO 42001 and EU AI Act readiness
• Collaborate closely with Engineering and Architecture teams across Budapest and Bracknell
  
  

Is this opportunity for you?

Essential Experience And Skills

• Hands-on experience in AI engineering, building production LLM systems
• Strong expertise in prompt engineering, context engineering and structured prompt architectures
• Production experience with RAG systems
• Experience with graph databases and vector databases for knowledge representation and semantic retrieval
• Experience building evaluation frameworks for AI systems
• Strong software engineering fundamentals: Python, REST APIs, CI/CD pipelines
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving scale-up environment where you need to figure things out as you go
  
  

Desirable Skills

• Experience with agentic workflow patterns: multi-agent orchestration, tool-calling, state management
• Understanding of EU AI Act requirements and ISO 42001
• Experience building shared AI infrastructure used by multiple product teams
• Familiarity with SAP BTP ecosystem
